The weird and wonderful venture bbbbb records serves up another selection of brain-bending Icelandic rave.
Volruptus kicks off 'Alien Transmissions' with a slice of bubbly acid techno where the 303 glides above chest-rattling kicks. ‘Jargon’ initially switches up the same basic materials of the title track into a dinky two-step before drifting into weirdo-house.
‘Gett Vffreakye’ is as bizarre as the title suggests - imagine DJ Slugo if he hailed from Mars rather than Chicago - and closer ‘Tesseract’ brings an unearthly mysticism not unlike peak Skanna together with another acid rhythm track.
Even by bbbbbb’s standards, this one is a proper curio.
As 90's as it can get without wasting that much money or effort on a time machine, art-aud rounded up seven tracks to make your nostalgia thirsty for water again. For front side, Local Group gets right into the groove, busting out classic synths, sounds and samples, into something even the moderns can get into. For back side, Gominolas and Chris Moss Acid surprise me with some very proto-electronic, a chiptune-slash-banger paying homage to those pioneers. Moonholders
